This semester, I spent my time on a blog dedicated to secrets and anonymity. I even started a tumblr where people can share their secrets or problems. Although the site dwindled in popularity as the semester progressed, I used it as a starting point for my blog and it led me to think of other new topics to investigate.
The blog made me think about why we all keep and share secrets and why we can depend on people we don’t even know to be our “secret keepers.” One of my first posts, “The Study of Secrets” goes into sociological study of secrets and anonymity. This is one of my better posts because I connect my blog theme to the greater world of sociology. I actually did research for this and the blog post itself promoted learning and investigation of new topics. Who ever thought someone had actually explored the science of anonymity! This hows a different side of secrets as compared to my other posts and shows that both the topic and I are versatile.
My second favorite blog post is “NEW Anonymous Post” where I feature my response to a question from the blog. The best part of the post is that the person asks me for advice on how to start a blog like mine. This is funny because I wouldn’t really consider my Sharing Secrets blog as successful, but I was able to offer advice. This shows how this “passion blog” experience extends outside on the classroom in a way different from “The Study of Secrets”. I offer advice but also in the reflection part of the post, I include connections to class concepts such as moderation, deliberation and advocacy. Connections, connections, connections!
My last post is “Drunken Inhibitions.” Like many of the posts before and after it, it features certain social constructs where secrets play a major part in their function. I think I wrote this post well and I kept my audience in mind. Because the post is about drinking, classmates could comment and provide insight into their own experiences. I also included information from one of my major classes, Biobehavioral Health 101, which makes the post more applicable to various fields of study. I am able to compare my passion to other parts of my life which is important to a sort of wholeness and well-roundedness in education and in life in general!
I had high hopes of the Sharing Secrets site and even though I didn’t meet these expectations, my passion blog was still successful. The tumblr acted as a diving board into some sort of pool of thought and I made it through the semester while still sharing new ideas and coming up with unique topics. I hope you enjoy these posts and realize the importance of each one!
