Over my freshman year, I believe that I’ve developed a lot in a personal way. I’ve gotten to learn who I am and I believe that my English assignments have been a mode of reflection. For my e-portfolio, I want to include projects that help define who I see myself as now. These works have helped me learn about myself and about the greater world as well.

The Impact that the World has on Me and Others: In my paper titled “Being the ‘Me’ in ‘Dear 16-year-old Me’”, I discussed the ethos, pathos and logos of the advocacy project. This project is important to me because it shows that I can analyze another piece of work and what each of the parts stand for. Through analysis, I became more cognizant of the importance of advocacy, my health and the health of others around me.

Learning About Myself Through Others: In my first semester, I interviewed random people on campus. The blogs themselves are fun because there is audio and pictures that go along with the posts. This was a perfect passion blog for my first semester. Although I was more reserved my first semester, these posts articulate how I began to develop as a more independent, daring person. Interviewing random people is hard! I make thoughtful comments about the people’s lives in relation to mine and it shows how I can form personal connections with people, no matter how fleeting they might be.

My Place in History: My TED talk from the end of the first semester is a good example of how I can overlook the external details of something. In my talk about Rosie the Riveter, I discussed her life not as a political figure but as a human. This talk parallels the importance of my day-to-day activities and choices. It’s interesting and fun and shows a different, multimedia type of project.

My Personal Beliefs and Reflections: My This I Believe podcast about being present. This is an idea that I took with me to college but it wasn’t until this assignment that I was able to speak about the belief backing up the experience. It shows who I am personally and how I am able to take every day occurrences and find meaning in them. An employer may find this important because I understand the importance of responsibilities and of other people.

Development of Beliefs: My Civic Issue posts concerning marriage equality and human rights are important to me because it expresses my own beliefs. I never wrote about this kind of thing in high school, even though it has always been important in my life. Through pictures and links, I synthesize my opinions and the importance of legislation and political action. I’ve become more aware of my surroundings since coming to college and this is a good example of that.

These all show something personal about me. I think there’s a clear development of myself in relation to personal development and the world through these posts.
